Very Fine, New Model 1863 Army rifle
This is a New Model 1863 Sharps Rifle with serial number C 34734. All had 30” barrels with 6-groove rifling. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny. The mechanical function is excellent sharp and crisp. All of the marking are sharp. The Cartouches are very good and crisp. The bottom of the front wood is stamped VBB. That may be Militia markings. The top of the butt plate has an inspector mark B and the rear of the top comb is stamped T.W.R. There are two sharp wrist Cartouches. The barrel retains about 70% blue. The receiver, lock plate and hammer, butt plate, trigger, 70%; and the patch box over 80% case colors. The wood front and rear is very nice with out any damage. This rifle is very near excellent condition. Only 6150 of the socket bayonet type were made for either the U.S. Army or U.S. Navy.
