This is a very beautifully engraved and chiseled pair of smooth bore Basque percussion pistols from Eibar, Spain. The barrels are half octagon and half round with numerous barrel makers marks. From the middle of the barrel back to the tang they are chiseled and engraved all the way around from the top tang, to the back strap, butt, trigger guard and finial. Even the ramrod pipes are engraved. The locks are engraved and say EN EIBAR. The percussion hammers are exquisitely chiseled and the grips are finely checkered walnut. These traveling pistols were probably made for Royalty or exhibition.
