This has a 30” barrel and the lug for the saber bayonet. The serial number is 40430, the mechanical function is very good crisp and tight and the bore is about very good bright and shiny with strong rifling but does have some corrosion. It retains about 70% original finish of which 10% of the blue shins through the plum color. There is a small grain crack on the bottom of the forend just forward of the lever. 1500 rifles went to fill an Army contract and 2800 went to the Navy in the early years of the Civil War. This is a solid 52 caliber rifle and because they were so well made, it could be shot today with proper loads.
