This is an S&W Model 3 Russian Second Model 44 S&W Russian centerfire single action revolver. The barrel was shortened to 4 3/8”. This was a very popular period modification on many of the long barrel pistols of the 1870s-1880s time frame. The serial number is 27202 and matching numbers, so it was most likely made in 1874. The mechanical function is very good and tight and the bore will almost make very good. It does have a tiny amount of very fine corrosion bright and shinny bore. Someone has used some cold blue on it but all of the markings are sharp and crisp. There are no chips or cracks on the grips. John Wesley Hardin carried this model of a Western Frontier cowboy revolver.
