This is an 1864 lock dated Model 1863 Type ll Civil War Musket. A historically important are due to its’ widespread use in the later part of the Civil War. The ramrod has the slotted head and the early two-leaf rear sight. The 40” 58 caliber barrel has a bright and shiny bore with strong rifling. All parts were finished bright except for the U.S. Springfield 1864-dated casehardened lock. The rear two leaf sight is finished blue as well as the barrel bands. The barrel was lightly cleaned and the stock was lightly sanded. The left side has two cartouches. One is ESA but the other is not clear, only showing partially. The mechanical function is very good and tight.
