Ogden made guns from 1849-1864. They were over & under combination rifle and shotgun firearms. This is a 28” 40 caliber percussion rifle and a 14 gauge combination shotgun rifle hunting long gun. The rifle ramrod is on the left side and the shotgun ramrod is on the right side. It is lightly engraved and has nickel silver trigger guard, cap box and butt is a crescent plate. The barrels retain about 40% blue. The smooth bore is fine and not pitted. The rifle bore is good plus with nice rifling and frosted dark in the grooves. The mechanical function is fine. The rifle has an adjustable set trigger. Most people couldn’t afford two guns so these were popular with rural and mountain people. This could be fun gun to shoot and I would not have a concern using it with proper loads.
