Description
This was made by E.G. Lamson & Company, Windsor, Vermont in 1865 and is a 50 caliber rimfire single shot. The receiver top marked, W. Palmer, Patent Dec. 22,1863. These were the first bolt action metallic cartridge carbines to be accepted by the U.S. Government. This is very good plus mechanical function, with a very good bore and strong rifling. Only 1001 were delivered to the Government and are about the complete quantity made. Patented in 1863 and sold to the US cavalry in 1865. It has a 20-inch barrel and there is a very fine Inspector Cartouche on the left side, MM for M. Moulton, Armory S-I. This is well above average condition and rates fine plus condition.
