This is a 1848 Colt Baby Dragoon with a 5” barrel, 5 shot 31 caliber single action. All numbers 6881 are matching except for the unnumbered wedge. The mechanical function and index is good plus and the bore is rough with strong rifling. The trigger guard and back strap show 10% + silver plating remaining. The outside has turned mostly plumb and patina with some fine pitting here and there. The Colts Patent on the frame and is two line. The Colts Patent on the cylinder is two lines with the serial number 6881 below it. No doubt many found there way to the California Gold Rush along with the 1849 Pocket model revolvers.
