This is an 1861 Colt Special Musket with 1864 lock and barrel date. It has two nice Inspector Cartouches on the left side above the trigger. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight, with a very good bright and shiny bore with strong rifling. The wood stock appears to have been lightly sanded at some point but still has two sharp Inspector Cartouches. About 100000 were made 1861 to 1865 and many were supplied for state contracts. This is a 58 caliber single shot with a 40” barrel.
