This was probably produced for a State Militia of New Jersey or Massachusetts. It is a three-band muzzle loading 69 caliber with 42 inch barrel. It has a flat iron lock plate 6.5” long and is not marked. The hammer cock is flat-sided single throat and plain. The barrel is marked SALEM B.I R with Eagle head and a raised P also a 1/2 or ¾ Moon next to it. The wood cartouche is LG and I.R. There is what appears to be a J behind the trigger guard tang. The action is very strong and sparks well. This is not a re-conversion but is an original flintlock. The wood is very good and the mechanical function is crisp and tight. The bore is lightly corroded. It comes with an original musket bayonet with the numeral 21 on it.
