Description

This is a very nice 450 3 ¼” black powder express double rifle. It was built for The Hon. Sidney Joliffe in July 1895. I have the history for Sidney Joliffe. He gained the rank of Captain in Scots Guards and he held the office of Member of Parliament. He also held Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire and Justice of the Peace for Hampshire.  The rifle is crisp and tight with very good mechanical function. The bores are very good bright and shiny with strong rifling. It has two sights with platinum lines, 150 yards and 250 yards. The action is tight and both hammer safeties work fine. The serial number 3964 and the rifle is nicely engraved on the receiver, locks, hammers, under lever, top tang and trigger guard. The checkering is very good but does have some light impressions. There is a small nick of front wood missing and it shows with the wood removed. There is a nick on the horn trim on the pistol grip. The silver escutcheon on the rear stock is not engraved. Not much barrel brown remains and there is 35-40% case colors remaining on the locks and receiver. I have the research information from Purdey of London.
