Less that 1000 were made and only 600 were purchased by the U.S. Government. This is one of 400 civilian revolvers. This is a 6” barrel 36 caliber D.A. revolver could very well have been a private purchase for an Officer or soldier. The quickest reload was always another loaded revolver. This still has original blue finish show through the patina. The mechanical function is very good crisp and tight and the bore is bright but corroded with strong rifling. This is serial number 771 and these were made from 1857 to 1861.
